Technology

CelaCare has unique technology that demonstrates strong antimicrobial synergism between silver citrate complex, a potent antimicrobial, and acemannan, an immunotherapeutic. This synergism enables substantial reductions in the levels of silver required, which translates into creation of safer products with superior activity. The combination of these two active pharmaceutical ingredients together with other components in CelaCare’s proprietary formulations creates the basis for products for the treatment of a diverse number of diseases. The company holds patents awarded by the United States Patent Office as well as the European Patent Office protecting CelaCare’s technology providing broad worldwide protection.

Acemannan
A large molecular weight complex carbohydrate obtained from the inner leaf gel of Aloe vera has been identified and given the United States Adopted Name, acemannan. Acemannan, an immunotherapeutic, has multiple properties with the most predominant being associated with its immune regulatory functions.  Included as part of these functions is the ability of acemannan to stimulate release of primary growth factors necessary for optimal tissue repair. There is also some evidence that acemannan may interfere with adherence of bacteria to epithelial cells. In addition to its immune modulation activities, acemannan has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties and aid in the control of pain.

Silver Citrate Complex
Silver salts are currently used in a number of topical antimicrobial products. The mechanism of action involves the binding of ionic silver to microbial proteins, causing structural changes in cell walls and both intracellular and nuclear membranes. Silver has also been shown to bind directly to DNA and RNA, denaturing nucleotides and thereby inhibiting replication. Silver citrate complex used in CelaCare’s formulations act as a potent antimicrobial agent with bactericidal and fungicidal properties against both non-resistant and antibiotic resistant organisms such as antibiotic resistant Staph commonly referred to as MRSA.

Synergy of Acemannan and Silver Citrate Complex
Both silver citrate complex and acemannan formulate well with a number of ingredients, providing flexibility for CelaCare’s formulation chemists. Once formulated, a resulting product is designed to have activity against both sensitive and antibiotic resistant microorganisms as well as to impart a positive impact on tissue repair. The number of resistant organisms is becoming very problematic with serious therapeutic complications being observed especially with Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
